Children under 13 are admitted free with paying adults.
Many of the Museum’s exhibits will be of interest to younger school age children such as: whale bones, fossils, shipwreck items, the Indian canoe, Sneakbox sailboats, model boats and model houses with furniture. Older children may be interested in the Lifesaving stations, LBI storms, the Baymen, early businesses, fishing, railroads on LBI, and early hotels and houses. The Admissions desk has two school-age children’s Treasure Hunts where the participants search for the objects/answers in the exhibits. One is for grades 1-4 and the other is for children with better reading skills (grade 4 and up). All participants receive a small prize.
Additionally, in the Research alcove there is a child’s school table and chairs suitable for younger and pre-school children. At the kiddie table there are children’s books, exhibits of knots & shells, blocks, and a DVD system showing a selection of DVDs. We always have bones & shells for touching.
Inexpensive souvenirs and children’s books are sold at The Whale Shop.
